Shibumi ― サンドアートと香りが重なり合う空間へ
このたび、サンドアーティスト石田恵美さんの作品展「SHIBUMI」の香りを制作しました。
石田さんがサンドアートを始めるきっかけとなったのは、ニュージーランド・オークランド西部にある Muriwai Beach と、その周囲に広がる雄大な自然です。
黒い砂浜、風に削られた岩肌、海から吹く湿った風。
そして現在、石田さんが制作を続ける信州・安曇野。
今回の香りは、この二つの土地の記憶を一つの風景として表現することを目指しました。
ニュージーランドの自然を象徴するカヌカと、信州の森を思わせるヒノキ。
そこへ、岩肌に残る湿度や深い静けさを感じさせるオークモス、そして穏やかな余韻を添えるフランキンセンスを重ねています。
砂は、風や水、長い時間によって形づくられます。
香りもまた、目には見えませんが、その場の空気や記憶を静かに変えていく存在です。
作品を「見る」だけでなく、「香り」とともに感じることで、砂と石が描く世界をより深く体験していただけたら嬉しく思います。
展示期間中は、会場の様子や香りに込めた想いなども少しずつご紹介していく予定です。

Shibumi — Where Sand Art Meets Scent
I had the pleasure of creating the original scent for Shibumi, an exhibition by sand artist Emi Ishida.
Emi’s journey into sand art began in the landscapes surrounding Muriwai Beach, on the west coast of Auckland, New Zealand.
The black sand, weathered rocks, and the cool, moisture-filled sea breeze left a lasting impression that continues to inspire her work today.
Now based in Azumino, Shinshu, she creates artworks shaped by another beautiful landscape.
This fragrance was designed to bring these two places together.
It combines Hinoki, evoking the forests of Shinshu, with Kanuka, a native tree of New Zealand.
Oakmoss adds the quiet moisture of stone and distant coastal memories, while Frankincense leaves a calm, lingering finish.
Just as sand is shaped over time by wind and water, fragrance quietly transforms the atmosphere around us.
By experiencing the artworks together with scent, I hope visitors can discover a deeper connection with the landscapes expressed through sand and stone.
Throughout the exhibition, I’ll also be sharing moments from the gallery and the story behind the fragrance.
